The (tight) lip service

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani has put a clamp on Pakistani ministers on issuing political and strategic statements from now onwards. Only Sherry Rehman, Minister of Information, or Akram Shaheedi, Pakistan’s Information Secretary, would be entitled to issue statements in the future.

In another similar development, all Pakistani private channels have voluntarily stopped airing Taliban comments on the continued military operation in different parts of the North-West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan. Under this change, the channels will not air views of the Taliban leadership against the ongoing offensive.

Anchors at Dawn News and Aaj TV were seen calling the militants as ‘Taliban’ and reporting solely on the military progress and activities.

This is a complete turn over from the same media houses that have largely been skeptical of the Armed Forces offensive against (as they used to put it) alleged terrorists in the North. One might wonder what ever happened to that point of view now that they all have voluntarily decided to ban any pro-taliban stance what so ever. Perhaps they were paid the right price this time around.

The Fruit of ‘Pakistani’ Democracy: President Zardari

All so called patriotic rallies, all sit-ins, all strikes and damages incurred to public properties and buildings, all efforts to get rid of a dictator have paid off! Democracy has won in Pakistan, Ladies, Gentlemen, Politicians, and Laywers (yes, the politicians and the lawyers are a separate breed in Pakistan). So what has been the ultimate and most promising thing to emerge from this struggle to be ‘democratic’ again?

Answer: President Asif Ali Zardari!

Ain’t that ironic! *chuckles*

All hail the new ‘democratic’ and ‘legally elected’ President of Pakistan: The man who has as many cases against him across several continents as the wide spectrum of his assets! The ‘Mr. 10%’ who rose from being a mere Environment Minister to becoming a President! The President of the very same country he was jailed in for well over a decade! This is Pakistani democracy! The easiest and most convenient way to rise in power and stay put, no matter how corrupt or vile you maybe.

Guess what’s the latest in spa pampering? Fish Pedicures!!!

Would you ever put your foot in to a fish bowl and let the fish nibble on your toes and skin?

The sensible answer to this, one might wonder, would be NO but hold up; fish pedicure is the most recent addition to spa treatments and is gaining massive popularity! No this is no joke. I’m serious! Dead serious!

What a unique alternative to the razors used for scraping away dead skin is this! And the way it works is simple. You put your foot in the water and the little fish called garra rufa aka Doctor Fish get to work. They nibble on the dead skin, cleaning it all away as that is their food source so to speak. Do they bite? Not at all. They got no teeth you see so its perfectly safe and all who have tried it have loved it stating the experience to be slightly ticklish.

Wonder if this would come over to Pakistan!

Health & Diet! Common Questions Answered Here

Follow these instructions and you will NEVER have to worry about the future again!

Q: I’ve heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?

A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that’s it… don’t waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that’s like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

———————————————————-

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?

A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these?  Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

———————————————————-

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?

A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

———————————————————-

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?

A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

———————————————————-

Q: Aren’t fried foods bad for you?

A: YOU’RE NOT LISTENING!!! … Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they’re permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

———————————————————-

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?

A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

———————————————————-

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?

A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It’s the best feel-good food around!

———————————————————-

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?

A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

———————————————————-

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?

A: Hey! ‘Round’ is a shape!

The World Ahead – A Look In To The Future!

Ever since man has started grasping the logic of Time and Space… he has been equally excited and worried about what to expect ahead. We all do in one way or the other I suppose.

When will our next salary come? When are we going to die? What will become of the world after a 100 years? The list is of course endless.

WeCite’s Fauzan and myself have taken some time to provide you a fraction of the answers to what the future holds. We might not be able to predict your death (because some things better be left to Faith and Fate alike), but we can tell you of some exciting and amazing things that are set to happen till the 23rd century!

We are in the 21st century by the way… in case you did not know!

While the chairman of Microsoft Corporation, Bill Gates is set to step down from daily duties after three decades on July 31 this year (shoot yourself right now if you did not know this!), we will start our estimations and predictions from the year 2009 and move forward 2009… 2010… 2015… 2020… 2030… 2040… and so forth.

Please note that these predictions are based on current trends and estimates. If things don’t happen the way they are listed here, you better not blame us! The list does not cover each and every event that would happen around the world. So if you are looking forward to finding out of they would ever make the sequel to Sex and The City, you’re on the wrong website! Sorry!

On a personal note, both Fauzan and I have been swept by amazement and sadness while compiling this list. There are certain events that only our children or our children’s children will witness or hear of. The likes of us would have long perished… returned from where we came from… dust to dust. The future holds many hopes and promises. It also holds warnings and disasters in the making. The decisions we take now, in our present, can affect the outcome that our next generations will either enjoy or suffer from.

So read on fellow earthlings, about what is yet to unfold…

Naming everything Bhutto

Read this Daily Times news. Aren’t our leaders getting a tad bit carried away with BB’s 55th Birth Anniversary? What will be next? Renaming Islamic republic of Pakistan to Bhutto Republic of Pakistan?

Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday announced that Islamabad airport, Rawalpindi General Hospital (RGH) and Murree Road would be named after former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairwoman. Islamabad International Airport will now be called Benazir Bhutto International Airport, the RGH Benazir Bhutto Hospital and Murree Road Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Road, said a statement issued by the prime minister’s secretariat

Britney Spears gives ‘Parenting Tips’ to little sister!

Now this really cracked me up!

Jamie Lynn Spears says older sister Britney gave her some parenting tips at her baby shower. The siblings were reunited at their parents’ home in Louisiana earlier this month for the party with family and friends.
‘It was wonderful to be able to spend time with her and just be girls again,’ Jamie admits. ‘We painted our nails and did stupid stuff, and we had our private time too. To be able to be in the privacy of our own home and just be sisters again was wonderful.’
And Brit, 26, who has sons Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, with ex husband Kevin Federline, chatted to the 17-year-old about becoming a mum.
‘She said: “There’s going to be some long nights, but it’s completely worth it,”‘ Jamie tells OK!
The Zoey 101 star is due to give birth to fiancé Casey Aldridge’s baby this summer.

Sister or no sister, I would be vety careful about taking parenting advice from Britney Spears! Then again, maybe lttle Spears wants to follow her elder sister’s footsteps to becoming (in)famous! God help the poor kid if this is so!

Germany: Child put on sale!

A seven-month-old baby boy has been taken away from his parents after they advertised him for sale on eBay for one euro.

eBay eventually removed the ad
eBay eventually removed the ad

Police in southern Germany took the child away on Saturday after they received calls from surfers who had seen the advert on the online auction site.

Officers have now launched an investigation into possible child trafficking charges against the parents – who claim it was “all a joke”.

The 23-year-old mother told German newspaper Bild: “It was only a joke.

“I just wanted to see if someone would make an offer.

“They’ve taken my son to hospital and I’ve got to take psychiatric tests next week.”

No offers were made for the child in the two hours and 30 minutes he was posted for sale.

The ad read: “Baby – collection only. Offer my nearly new baby for sale because it cries too much.

“Male, 70 cm long.”

eBay has deleted the advert and the child is currently in the care of “youth services” in the southwestern Allgaeu region of Germany.

Barbarism or Justice Served?

Image sourced from http://khabrain.com

The crowds that gathered around and witnessed the burning bodies of the three robbers near the Timber Market, Karachi yesterday said they were ‘happy over the incident and praised the persons who had torched these robbers alive.’

Is this justice served or a mob that acted out of sheer frustration and torched three men, two of whom died on the spot and the third succumed to his death in the hospital?

Granted the looting and robbing of citizens has reached new highs in recent times and the people were fed up of being robbed and looted. But can this act of ignorance and brutality ever be justified by any means? Where is the sense in torching three human beings to death? What law were these people following and why have none of them been taken in to custody for murder?

As always, there were conflicting reports of what actually happened and how. Daily Times stated that only one police mobile was present at the time when the robbers were fleeing after looting a house and were fired upon. As a result of the chase that the police gave, two of the robbers were shot dead and one was critically wounded. The mobs wanted to beat and set fire to the three bodies which they gladly did while both the police and the Edhi Ambulance people were shoved back by thousands of angry residents.

There was a conflicting account in the very same news clipping that the robbers were caught fleeing by the residents and were beaten up with any thing they could lay their hands on and THEN they were torched to death while atleast 5-6 police mobiles and one ambulance service were rendered helpless by the angry crowds.

What are we turning in to? Just recently we saw chaos in Multan where angry mobs took to the streets and damaged private and government property in their own style of protests against the impending load sheddings. And now yet again, law has been taken in the hands of a common man and three men, although criminals, were burnt alive in broad day light as a lesson for others who followed the same path.

So does this mean we do not need law and order in our country any more? Is there no need for police or the army or the courts or any laws and sentences?

Who is going to be held responsible for this heinous act? The robbers who rob, the people who killed them, the policemen who watched, the ambulance staff who couldn’t help, or us all who will think about this for five minutes and then move on?

Objection Please…

Very recently I had the dis-pleasure of reading a post by one of the authors of the Islamabad Metroblogs that really ruined my mood. Generally, the Islamabad Metroblogs have had a very smart and mature breed of writers in their band wagon that have stuck to a very balanced citizen journalism. So it was sad to see their author by the name of Fatima humoring about the hightened security protocals at the Serena hotel in the highly volatile capital of Islamabad.

It wasn’t her description or rather explanation of her friend with a niqab and the text-book labelled “International Politics of TERRORISM” that is objectionable. What leaves a bad taste in the mouth is her seemingly evident sarcasm of the efforts and the security measures being taken to protect the lives of thousands and how she found funny the confusion on the faces of the guards.

As she puts it herself:

So there we were, two strange pedestrians walking up to the main gate of Serena, one of us carrying a huge suspicious-looking backpack, and the other dressed in a black nikaab and abaaya, brandishing a book about terrorism.

Why would you NOT be singled out and scrutinized when it is this very description that has been the cause of so many suicide bombings in the country? And she really does it in her closing statements by saying:

On the way out, my friend whipped out her phone and started making a video of the hotel. From their posts at the gate, the security people stared uneasily. But what could the poor dears do, after all? My friend and I laughed all the way home.

Do grow up child and respect the effort that has been put in to keep you and your friends safe from blowing in to a million pieces. Such irresponsible yap and that too at a place such as Islamabad Metroblogs that has made a name of itself due to its blunt yet honest journalism only goes to spoil its image.

Not only that but it is indeed sad to see how some of us are so naive so as to not appreciate the importance of such efforts done to our own advantage. Making fun of the evident panic that is caused by such stupid behavior as wearing a niqab and filming the hotel is not a joke. You really need to learn what is happening in our country.

NOTE: This post has recently been ‘toned down’. 🙂
