Gen Musharraf to be sworn in as President this weekend – AG

President General Pervez Musharraf is likely to resign as army chief over the weekend and take oath of office as a civilian president for his second term.

Talking to Daily Times, Attorney General Justice (r) Malik Qayyum said: “I think the president will take oath of office for the second term on Friday or Saturday.”

The president had submitted a statement in the Supreme Court (SC) saying that if he were re-elected as president for the second term, he would “relinquish charge of the office of chief of army staff soon after the election but before taking oath of office of the president of Pakistan for the next term”.

Was an infant responsible for the Karachi Blast? — PPP says ‘YES’

According to Benazir Bhutto and a ‘source close to the PPP leader’, the ‘suicide bombing’ was carried out by a person who had a one year old child strapped with bombs and was repeatedly trying to carry the child to the back of Benazir’s truck. On several occasions, he tried to hand over the child to either Benazir Bhutto or any other PPP leader on board the vehicle.

PPP leadership says they do not trust the local investigators and claim they do have details of the bombing gathered to be  presented to any foreign investigative agency. “That is why Benazir Bhutto has been demanding that the probe must be conducted by the FBI or the Scotland Yard so that she could provide them with the evidence,” a PPP source said.
