Britney still on top!

She shaved her head… attacked a photographer’s car with an umbrella… checked in and out of rehab… locked horns in a desperate custody battle with her ex-hubby Kevin Federline over her two kids… flashed her panty-less crotch in public… made out with random people… released an average album after a gap of four years… is rumored to be pregnant for the third time… and the list goes on and on.

Even though the disgraced pop diva has had one hell of a roller coaster year, she still managed to fascinate people the most in 2007 as she heads the list of the top 10 searches on Yahoo.

Over time she has become completely unpredictable and at times you just can not imagine what to expect from her next.

“From when she shaved her head and rumours emerged from the rehab mill that she was calling herself the anti-Christ and shaved 666 on her scalp, there was constant tracking of this almost modern-day Greek tragedy happening in front of us.”

Britney Spears has topped the annual Yahoo list for six of the past seven years, only losing out once in 2004 to her friend and fellow party girl PARIS HILTON. But overall the Britney Spears searches were up from a year ago.

Fellow friend and actress LINDSAY LOHAN came sixth in the search list, up from No 10.

The No 2 search, unchanged from last year, was for WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment, with a lot of interest in the death of professional wrestler CHRIS BENOIT who killed his wife and son then hanged himself and his steroid use.

WeCite Review: Om Shanti Om

Farah Khan’s previous venture, Main Hoon Na was quite a disappointment to begin with. Honestly, I expected a lot more from the likes of her and all the teasers for Om Shanti Om that I had been seeing for months actually made me hopeful that this time around it would be a better deal. And what did I get: a typical bollywood masala flick with no trace of logic. Nevertheless, I liked the movie. Yes, you heard me. I did like it despite an all out completely illogical grapevine of twists and turns that take place in the second half of the movie. Simon wants Britney in American Idol

Simon Cowell wants Britney Spears to make a guest appearance on US talent show American Idol! ‘As far as I’m concerned, she can produce or direct American Idol if she likes,’ he says. ‘She’d bring in 50 million viewers.’

The pop mogul believes that Britney has what it takes to make a successful comeback. ‘She’s got the talent but has got to make a record as good as Baby One More Time again,’ he said. ‘Even though she made that record 10 years ago, we’re still talking about her.’

‘Part of her charm is that she gets as many things wrong in her life as she gets right.’

 I don’t know about Simon but personally, her wrongs have over-shadowed her rights for quite some time now. Would she be the ideal candidate to help judge upcoming new talent? This should be an interesting American Idol season to watch out for.

This just keeps getting better and better!

The hype behind the soon to be launched iPhone has taken a new turn with apple.com bringing 3 new iPhone adverts for your viewing. These adverts seem to be not only about the phone’s outlook but actually give a short tour of its interface and their functionality!

Now that is something you don’t see everyday in a mobile phone advertisment.

iPhone has an eager population awaiting its launch. Too bad it will not be available in Asia till early 2008 but we all know there are other means to get our hands on this hot gadget.

One Month’s Ultimatum by Taliban

A group known as the Khadim-i-Islam Taliban in Pakistan have given an ultimatum to CD and audio and video cassette sellers in the Pakistani capital Islamabad to close down their business within a month otherwise they would be left with no alternative but to do it by force. In a letter distributed to CD and cassette sellers in Aabpara Market, Super Market and Jinnah Super Market in the capital, they suggested to the shopkeepers to quit this “un-Islamic business” and switch over to another. The group claims that the CDs and casettes carry material that is obscene and vulgar.

SKETCH’s SILENT :: WeCite Review

The first thing you notice about the video is that it is edited/directed by the band itself which promptly reminded me of that phrase about too many cooks spoiling the broth. There is always a risk when you are taking the initiative to conceive and direct/edit the video for your own song. You are either going to mess it up with every one in the band pushing for their two cents and for their on-camera slot or you simply fail to realize that if you can sing or play an instrument well, the same skill might not be applicable when you are holding a camera.Fortunately for SKETCH, they are neither a 7/8-men-army like Entity Paradigm (so they could bunch their entire talent pool in one frame and be a one big happy family) nor have they failed (completely) to deliver with the camera in hand. Their efforts might not earn them too many accolades too soon but SKETCH’s Silent is a fire-starter none the less in the arid and seemingly lifeless desert of Islamabad’s music scenario.

The song is addictive! If you listen to it with your eyes closed while sitting on the aisle of your window with a cup of good coffee while the raindrops trickle down, you will feel immersed in it. But then again, you don’t need effort to appreciate good music do you? SKETCH is bringing along the promise of something new and different and there is no question about it.

The video is good and it does portray the philosophy behind the song but it gets too gloomy and too dark for everyone’s liking I think. Possibly if it could be refined in terms of its presentation a bit more, it would do better. The vocalist needs to ‘move along with’ the song! At times, it felt like he was hardly opening his mouth at all. He has a great voice which, I believe, has the promise of becoming even finer much like an aged wine and is supported well by the rest of the gang but he needs to put a bit more life in to his performance for the future.

All in all, I think SKETCH has done a wonderful job at their first go. Nothing in this world is perfect and there is nothing that can not be improved further. SKETCH is a brilliant and talented team and are definitely some one to look forward to as the next big thing in years to come.
