The World Aroud Me

So this is the country I live in. It’s called Pakistan and lately, it has been a puddle of chaos. Not that things are ever ok in any country but hey, this is my country so things that happen here catch my attention more than any where else!

Let’s start with our very own Taliban brothers (dubbed lovingly as the T-gang) whom our Armed Forces have been doing operations against up in SWAT. Last I heard, and it seemed to come from a reliable source, the place was well on it way towards getting rid of the T-gang! But nooooo… The boys are back and marching in the streets of the Matta Teshil! Mr. Fazool aka Fazlullah (sorry but he doesn’t deserve the Maulana status) will be leading the Friday prayers at their old HQ that has been renovated and the illegal and blasphemous radio broadcast shall commence too! Yaay! Why not go ahead and send them a ‘Welcome Back, We Missed You!’ card while they are at it! So what’s the Army doing about all this? Nothing! And why should they anyways. It’s a sp called democratic government who should give them the next directive right? RIGHT?

Which brings us to the present govrenment that has come out with the statement that has brought more yawns than protests: Load Shedding shall continue till 2010! … WOW! And what happens after that? Oh I know… After 2010, you’ll get used to it! Simple! I don’t know about you but Lahore is going GA-GA buying generators and UPS! So much so that very soon we’ll have a Generator/UPS shortage to match the recent ‘aata crisis’! Megawatts deficit my foot! Give me my share of electricity NOW!

Furthermore, let’s turn our heads to the recent ‘thukai’ of the two loyalists of President Musharraf’s regime: Mr. Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Mr. Sher Afgan Niazi. Even the so called ‘intervention’ of Mr. Aitazaz Ahsan could do zilch to stop the onslaught that fell on Mr. Niazi in the form of slaps, fists, broken glass, and shoes. So there you go. PPP workers flex their muscles on Mr. Rahim and the lawyers use Mr. Niazi as a punching bag! And you’d think that was the end of it. Oh how wrong would we be to consider that. The lawyers in Karachi got the backlash when an angry mob set ablaze a building that houses several law offices and torched several cars as well. The result: 40 cars torched and 7 lawyers burned alive beyond recognition! Smarty pants as they are, the Law Community was quick to condemn the attacks on the politicians! Kind of reminds me of Shaggy’s song ‘Wasn’t Me!’! *chuckles*.

And this is where the finger-pointing starts! Make way for the blame game everybody! The district bars up in Rawalpindi said it was the President’s office and MQM… they blamed the Punjab Govt for not sending a ‘good ambulance’ or an armoured personnel carrier to take away the politician (next time demand for a TANK sir!)… Nawaz Sharif and (goody-two-chappals) Maulana Fazlur Rehman said its a conspiracy against democracy and the agencies get to be blamed… PPP blamed PML(Q) which promted PML(Q) to announce a bunch of country wide protest rallies against the recent incidents of violence against its leaders… oh and they blamed PPP and PML(N) of course! Frustrating? No doubt. Ask the much popular Karachi Metblogs who went on to state: We don’t deserve democracy……………we need another Martial Law!” Do we now! *more chuckles*. A recent poll on the metblog seems to suggest that the majority thinks MQM is to blame (currently 57%) while (surprisingly) the lawyers are runners up (24%)! But what’s a total shocker is that only 6% of the voters on the poll think Mush has a hand in this! Shell-shocking eh?!!

As the plots thicken and the accusations contiunue, we got a ‘psst’ from our friends in UK who promised that Pakistan’s C’Wealth membership shall be restored this May since there is no apparent ’emergency’ in the country ! Yippie! Thanks guys! We owe you! Also, there were major re-shuffling headlines concerning our Police Dept making the news as not one, not two, but THREE DIG’s were switched in Karachi following the riots and more changes are likely to take place soon. Add to that a recent decision by the government to throw merit and seniority in the loo and appoint a grade-20 intelligence officer for the post of DG IB. The news has stirred a lot of unrest and disapprovals within the intelligence agencies and officials. The government says they want to rid the post of govt loyalists. Isn’t that what EVERY govt has said? We’ll see how this dude turns up.

If you think this was fun, wait till you see what we do with Doh Paisay when it launches! Do check it out when you have time from scratching your bum!

See ya!

UNDERSTAND THIS!

DEMOCRACY DON'T RULE THE WORLD, YOU'D BETTER GET THAT IN YOUR HEAD; THIS WORLD IS RULED BY VIOLENCE, BUT I GUESS THAT'S BETTER LEFT UNSAID - Bob Dylan: American folksinger.
