Pilot survives Pakistan military jet crash

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) pilot survived Wednesday when his French-built Mirage fighter plane crashed in Pakistan’s central Punjab province. The pilot ejected safely when the aircraft on a routine mission went down near the town of Jhang, PAF spokesman Wing Commander Tariq Mehmood said.

Authorities have begun an inquiry into the crash that did not cause any apparent damage on the ground. It was the fourth jet fighter lost by the PAF this year, with two crashing due to technical failure and one going down after hitting a bird.

On March 13, one of the two pilots was killed when a dual cockpit F-7 plane crashed near a military airfield in the south-western city of Quetta.
