Aisam-ul-Haq in the semis

Pakistan’s Aisam-ul-Haq moved to semi-finals of the Dubai Open International Futures tennis championship by defeating Pierre Ludovic of Canada in a quarter-final on Sunday.

Aisam, who preferred to play individual tennis over representing Pakistan in the Davis Cup tie, displayed a gruelling fight against the Canadian to carve out the 7-6 (8/6), 7-5, 7-6 (8/6) victory.

The match lasted for four hours. He will now face sixth seed Lars Ubel of Germany in the semi-final.

Subsequently, Aisam, pairing with Australia’s Rameez Junaid of the Pakistan origin, went on to win the doubles title of the championship. They defeated top-seed pair of Pierre Ludvic Duclos of Canada and Feeney of Australia in straight sets (6-4, 6-3).
