Justice Rana Bhagwandas takes oath

Saturday, March 24, 2007 (Karachi)
Justice Rana Bhagwandas, one of Pakistan’s senior most judges, has taken oath as the acting Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Karachi on Saturday.

Bhagwandas replaces Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry who was suspended by President Pervez Musharraf on charges of misconduct. He was in India on a pilgrimage.

He is the first Hindu to be appointed to the post of top judge and infact the second non-Muslim Chief Justice after Justice A R Cornelius.

Justice Bhagwandas is likely to head the Supreme Judicial Council, a five judge body that will decide on the fate of Chaudhary.

UNDERSTAND THIS!

DEMOCRACY DON'T RULE THE WORLD, YOU'D BETTER GET THAT IN YOUR HEAD; THIS WORLD IS RULED BY VIOLENCE, BUT I GUESS THAT'S BETTER LEFT UNSAID - Bob Dylan: American folksinger.
