Bond 22 – A direct sequel ??

As Casino Royale is a reboot of the Bond film franchise, the question has been raised on numerous occasions as to whether future movies would be remakes of previously made films, specifically, a remake of Live and Let Die, Fleming’s second novel. According to Barbara Broccoli, Bond 22 and Bond films for the foreseeable future will not be remakes. It is, however, possible that Bond 22 may receive an unused Ian Fleming title such as “The Hildebrand Rarity”, “The Property of a Lady”, “Risico”, “Quantum of Solace” or “007 in New York”, even though elements and characters from all of these stories except “Quantum of Solace” have been used in previous Bond films. Robert Wade and Neal Purvis have denied rumours of the story being based on “Risico”, though the use of the name is still a possibility. Bond 22 is set to release in November 2008.

Since everything is being shaken and rebooted in the franchise, reports also point out that Bond 22 will be a direct continuation of the events started in Casino Royale. Since most Bond films have been stand-alone adventures, this should be another good way to shake (not stir) the formula.

Producer Barbara Broccoli was asked at a junket last year whether the sequel approach would happen, and responded: “At the end of this film (Royale), there is unfinished business. There is an evil force, but there’s also internal unfinished business that he has to resolve. We’re planning to go forward and resolve some of this. Quite how we do it I don’t know at the moment. That’s what we’re working on. That’s the big challenge.”

As a Bond enthusiast I have to say I was a little bit bored with the long poker scenes that added no thrill or excitement to the movie. As for Daniel Craig’s performance, I think both him and Timothy Dalton have a lot in common, they’re both rough around the edges and had very short carriers as 007 (I didn’t think Craig had the charisma and panache that his predecessors have possessed). However I’m happy that there will be a sequel to Casino Royale and also hopping that Clive Owens will finally have his opportunity to play 007.

Now I have to put my objections to the first casino royale, and this second one. there was a loose story connection i believe on the older james bond films, when pierce brosnan started the old “M” was replaced with Judi Dench. and she was introduced as taking over the “M” position. Judi Dench’s M first met James Bond FAAAAR into his career.

Then all of a sudden she is his first boss, makes no sense and why didnt anyone pick up on this that i can see? AND the damn director of GOldeneye did this one, so he filmed two movies in which James Bond meets the New M twice.

    Anyone agree??

Guys, if u watch the movie closely, u notice that when he picks up the surveillance dvd it says JULY 6 2006.
so is bond supposed to be in the present day although these are his past assignment?

I agree Ayesha, something I noticed too, recall the scene from Golden Eye where Pierce Brosnan tells M that her predecessor keeps scotch in the cupboard, and she gives him a lecture on her being the boss and bond thinking she’s an accountant.

Shoaib, these are his past assignments yes, but the retelling is now. Just like Batman Begins, the rebooting means u take something from start and apply today. Thats why they had new buildings and cars in batman begins instead of the old fashioned ones.

I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the older films remade, with current technology improving what can be done, effects-wise.
