The move comes amid a major reshuffle at the top ranks within the Pakistan Army that saw new Corps Commanders take their places in Karachi, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Bahawalpur.

ISI chief Lt Gen Nadim Taj has been moved as commander Gujranwala Corps while Lt Gen Yousuf, present VCGS, has been appointed Corps Commander Bahawalpur. Present Corps Commander Bahawalpur Lt Gen Raza Khan has been shifted as DG Joint Staff Headquarters.

Seven major-generals were promoted to the rank of lieutenant-generals. They are Major General Tahir Mahmoud (Infantry – present Commander SSG), Major-General Shahid Iqbal (Infantry – Chief Instructor NDU), Major General Tanvir Tahir (EME – DG C4Is), Major-General Zahid Hussain (Artillery – Commandant Pakistan Military Academy), Major General Ahmad Shuja Pasha (Infantry – DG Military Operations), Major-General Mohammad Mustafa Khan (Armoured Corps – ISI), and Major-General Ayyaz Saleem Rana (Armoured Corps – ISI).

1- The Mysterious US Embassy Truck

Why was a US embassy truckload of steel boxes unloaded and shifted inside the Marriott Hotel on the same night when Admiral Mike Mullen met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and others in Islamabad? This was two nights before the Marriott attack. It is questionable as to why both the main gates (the entrance and the exit) of the hotel were closed while no one except the US Marines were either allowed to go near the truck or get the steel boxes unloaded or shift them inside the hotel. None of the hotel staff or security were authorized to be any where near the truck. Who gave this authorization? Was it the owner Hashwani?

Furthermore, these steel boxes were transported by hand to the 4th and 5th floors of the hotel WITHOUT going through the scanners installed at the hotel’s lobby entrance. Why was this allowed in the first place?

Washington has tried to clear the air by saying that the steel boxes in question were in fact part of the equipment that moves along with any high ranking official’s visit (Admiral Mullen in this case). If this is so then how come no explanation was given at the time these boxes were being transported. Why now?

2- The Blue-Flamed Fire on 4th and 5th Floor

The truck loaded with explosives T&T, RDX and Aluminum powder hit the barrier outside the Marriott Hotel. But then how come fire was seen on exactly the 4th and 5th floor with unusual intensity and blue colored flames that could not be extinguished and later burned entire of the Hotel? If the explosives had aluminum powder that created fire (as told my Rehman Malik) then why this catalyst only created fire on the 4th and 5th floor of Marriott? Why not on the road side, the adjacent buildings of Marriott, or the trees along side?

The suicide truck hit the barrier on the LEFT side of the building entrance/gate but fire broke out on the 5th floor on the RIGHT side; exactly above the lobby. What is the explanation for that?

AAJ TV showed footage of uniformed US Marines entering the Marriott AFTER the explosion with the notion of a possible search and rescue operation for the US citizens inside. These Marines were not from the authorized rescue teams. Who allowed them access in the first place? Was it really a search and rescue mission? Doubts cloud this move because the US ambassador in Islamabad had initially announced that there were absolutely no US personnel in Marriott Hotel and no one was residing there but later had to change her statement that maybe there were some US Marines inside the hotel. The statement changed after footage of US Marines surfaced on AAJ TV. Did they go inside to check on or initiate something (an explosion or fire perhaps) or to remove any evidence?

It is evident that the primary intention of those sitting in the suicide truck was to cross the barrier and smack the payload right in to the main lobby of the hotel. An explosion triggered in there would have most certainly ripped the hotel apart and the infrastructure would have fallen like a house of cards. Unlucky for the bombers, the truck was stuck at the barrier and could not go any further. They were left with no choice but to detonate it there and then or risk being caught.

Were the blue flames seen on the 4th/5th floor on the other side of the hotel when the first explosion took place part of the plan? No one would have noticed them had the truck been successful in ramming in to the lobby.

3- The CCTV Footage That Ends Abruptly

The CCTV footage as shown in the press conference by Rehman Malik lasted for exactly 4 minutes and 4 seconds. It starts with the truck ramming in to the barriers and coming to a halt. The guards run back away from the truck only to return to further investigate. After a while, gun shots are heard that are said to be from the guards in an attempt to shoot out the tires of the truck and prevent it from advancing further. This is immediately followed by an explosion in the front seating area of the truck that prompts the guards to run back again. A few minutes passed and one brave guard attempts to extinguish the fire with a portable fire extinguisher but fails. He later puts down the fire extinguisher and runs back away from the truck. This is towards the very last seconds of the footage. The actual explosion is never seen as the footage stops merely seconds before it. Why was this so? If the footage was acquired in the first place, was the major explosion not shown on purpose? What really did happen on those last few seconds that must not be disclosed to the media and the public?

4- The Gas Pipeline Claim

Without any initial investigations so far, there were remarks from sources that the gas pipeline inside the hotel caught fire. This was barely minutes after the incident had just taken place. Was this notification a part of the script to be fed at the right time to the media to throw them off? The statement changed drastically AFTER the investigations when Rehman Malik said that aluminum powder was responsible for the high intensity fires inside. That still does not answer the strange and immediate fire seen on the top floors when only the seating area of the truck was still burning.

5- The CDA’s Uncharged Batteries

The CDA water tankers and fire extinguishers, could not start their water pumps because of uncharged batteries to extinguish the fire on 4th and 5th floor! Now that is funny. Usually such machinery is on high alert standby especially when the President is due to make an important address or even when an Iftar is being hosted by the Prime Minister. Does this mean to imply that the fire department were inadequately prepared to begin with that day or was this on purpose too?

6- Intelligence Reports – Neglected or Planted?

It was also reported that Pakistani Intelligence sources had notified the government two days prior to the suicide attack that there as an imminent threat by suicide bombers in the capital with the next week. If this information was indeed received by the government, how come appropriate steps were not taken to ensure tighter security of important locations such as Marriott. How come road blocks were not put up and the capital clamped down that allowed an explosive-laden truck to roam at will on the roads of Islamabad? More interesting is the fact that several day AFTER the Marriott attack, it is only NOW that these intelligence sources have started saying that not one but actually THREE trucks laden with explosives had entered Islamabad. Are our intelligence agencies THIS proficient that they can’t even count ? Or was this really some thing that was planted to begin with? If these trucks were seen or heard of entering the capital, there MUST be an entry point from where they came in. Who ever knew they entered should also know where they entered from. How come then these three trucks were not apprehended? Granted it is impossible to spot our a suicide bomber that might enter a capital city from any where but how many trucks can go un-noticed? It is seriously flawed! Was this a cover up for the possibility that these explosives were in fact loaded on the truck within Islamabad?

7- Building the case for devaluing Pakistan

The Marriott blast, amid several mixed signals, gave a very strong feeler to the world. This country is NOT safe! Pakistan has been called the most dangerous country in the world. It has recently been declared as the 46th or 48th most corrupt country in the world. Everyone knows that the mere notion of a suicide threat makes our economy and stocks wobble. An actual explosion and that too in the heart of the county ensures that the economy spins out of control! Was this the basic aim of this act? Furthermore, such an incident would benefit the US with regards to gaining more sympathies for their stance that US forces must operate inside Pakistan. Is this why, before any other leader of any country, President Bush offered his sympathies on the blast along with the proposal to send in FBI to investigate the attack? More US feet on Pakistani soil – one way or the other.

This bomb blast is yet another episode of the US policy to first create terrorists in tribal areas of Pakistan by killing innocent people, villagers, poor civilians creating hatred for the central Govt. & Armed forces of Pakistan. Secondly channeling & facilitating the hatred and urge for revenge by the terrorists created out of innocent but emotionally aroused individuals. Providing the cover and umbrella to the flock of such individuals on the name of organizations headed by Magal Bagh, Baitullah Mehsud, or the TTP with complete logistical and financial support from Mossad, RAW, CIA through the consulates in Afghanistan.

The one who executes the suicide mission never comes to know in whom hands is he/she playing. Never knows who the real targets, instead just plays in the hands of the enemies of Islam & Pakistan. In return, the government has been seen in jubilation and proudly celebrating their success on finding the bomber’s head. Soon the investigation goes in back pages as another explosion rips off tasking the govt. in search of a new head. The never ending cycle of our counter terrorism.

We should get over this mentality and take a good hard look at the geo-political reality of what is actually happening in our world and has been happening for some considerable time.

These questions MUST be answered. The truth must be known. If this episode goes un-noticed, then all hope for a secure Pakistan is already lost.

The latest exchange came after the helicopters crossed the border from Afghanistan. U.S. military officials however stated that the helicopters were in Afghan air space the whole time. Yet another claim surfaced from United States that the helicopter, a U.S. Army OH-58D Kiowas, was in fact providing ground cover to a small contingent of US Army troops on a border patrol with Afghan Police.

The U.S. State Department said it was awaiting the results of an investigation of the incident by Pakistan and deemed the shooting incident as troubling.

Pakistani Military spokesman, Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas brushed aside US’s statement as some thing that didn’t make sense at all.

Two helicopters crossed into our territory in North Waziristan. They passed over our border checkpost, so our troops fired warning shots. The helicopters returned fire and then went back across the border into Afghanistan.

President Asif Ali Zardari stated that the warning shots fired by Pakistani Armed Forces were in fact flares with the intention to let the copters know that they have crossed in to the border. He stressed that the shots did not carry any hostile intent what so ever.

The ever so increasing incidents of visible US interventions in to Pakistan is a disturbing sign. At times it even looks like the United States is inciting Pakistani Armed Forces and the tribesmen on purpose to build a case against extensive firing on their men and machines. Moreover, it is only a matter of time whereby terrorists see this as yet another golden opportunity to further damage the Pak-US relations. US copters could be attacked by the enemy from within the Pakistani borders even though they might not have crossed the border. A string of accusations and denials will follow from Washington and Islamabad and would surely dampen relations.

The United States must understand and realize the fragility of the situation. An ugly confrontation could easily be avoided if US forces would restrain themselves and let Pakistani military do its job in Pakistan.

In another similar development, all Pakistani private channels have voluntarily stopped airing Taliban comments on the continued military operation in different parts of the North-West Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan. Under this change, the channels will not air views of the Taliban leadership against the ongoing offensive.

Anchors at Dawn News and Aaj TV were seen calling the militants as ‘Taliban’ and reporting solely on the military progress and activities.

This is a complete turn over from the same media houses that have largely been skeptical of the Armed Forces offensive against (as they used to put it) alleged terrorists in the North. One might wonder what ever happened to that point of view now that they all have voluntarily decided to ban any pro-taliban stance what so ever. Perhaps they were paid the right price this time around.

Having declared her as ‘gorgeous‘ upon their first interaction went on further to say, “Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you.”

And when a handler from the President’s entourage requested the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras, Zardari added (suggestively perhaps?) that, “If he’s insisting, I might hug!”

Dear Mr. President, while we are well aware of your countless frolics back home as far as being a womanizer is concerned, please remember that you are there to deliver a very serious message across and not to engage yourself in to further scandals/affairs.

In an age and time where each and every word uttered, any emotion shown, any body language suggested is sliced, analyzed, discussed, and sensationalized beyond imagination, it is important to keep things in check.

There is harm in having fun but let’s not mix business with pleasure please!

To generate an on-going fund for the families of the victims of Terror attacks primarily those affected by Suicide Bombs.

S.Y.N.O.P.S.I.S:

As a trend the primary victims of suicide attacks are the Security Guards, Low level Police Soldiers, Security Officials and Drivers etc. Usually the victim leaves over 5 dependants behind who in most cases are given anywhere between Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 300,000 from the employer or the government.

O.N-G.R.O.U.N.D  R.E.A.L.I.T.Y:

We exalt these brave men and women to the status of Martyrs however, after a basic amount from the government/ employer; we absolve ourselves of this responsibility.

T.H.E  E.M.O.T.I.O.N:

Pakistanis are one family. When one member of the family is in distress, the rest all rush to his or her help… Similarly if a member of our Pakistani brotherhood gives his life protecting the others it is our duty to ensure that his dependents are taken care of.

M.E.C.H.A.N.I.C.S:

1. Generate a comprehensive database of victims, their dependents and profile their dependents as per:
a. Age
b. Gender
c. Relation
2. Establish an Account in the name of the victims and their families
3. Make a Nationwide call for donations
4. Based on the donations received make donations to the victims families to fortify whatever small amount they have received from the government or their employer.

A.R.E.A.S  O.F  C.O.N.C.E.R.N:

The fund will be utilized in the following areas of concern:
1. Education
2. Welfare

Based on the feedback from the donors following areas can be included in the program, the mechanics of the same can be finalized once the areas are included.

4. Special Concerns (Marriage, Post Humus Birth of Child etc)

-Education:
For education one may partner with existing NGOs such as The Citizens Foundation or Teach a Child Foundation who are already working in the area. With a regular monthly stipend towards each child benefiting from this program, responsibility of the education can be handed over.
However, in the absence of such an alliance as yet, the fund will be directed towards simply paying the children’s fee to the school they are studying in currently. This offers the additional benefit of the child continuing in his or her familiar environment.

-Welfare:
To avoid complication, the Welfare amount will be based on number of depends and amount per dependent as opposed to a lump sum being handed over to each house hold. This will take into consideration each dependent as opposed to each family.

Hmm…!

Its correspondent in Islamabad said he received a text message on his mobile phone showing a telephone number, which he called and then heard a recording in which the group admitted launching Saturday’s attack. The speaker on the recording spoke in English ‘with a South Asian accent,’ he said.
The group also issued several demands including for Pakistan to stop its cooperation with the United States, al Arabiya said:

A suicide bomber rammed a truck packed with more than half a tonne of explosives into the security gates of the luxury hotel, killing at least 60 people and wounding more than 260 in a massive fireball.

The speaker alleged that the attack was carried out by a ‘martyrdom-seeker’ — suicide bomber — while 250 US Marines and American and NATO officials were in the hotel.

If you ask me, there are far too many pot-holes to this claim. Firstly, the only viable search for this so called organization boils down to an Iranian fundamentalist group/secret society that was founded in 1946 by a theology student named Navab Safavi. They majorly operated within Iran with focus on following the sharia, to demand prohibitions of alcohol, tobacco, opium, films, gambling, the amputation of hands of thieves, a ban on foreign clothes, an elimination of all non-Muslim subjects, such as music, from school curriculum, and the veiling of women. But Navab Safavi and other key members of this group were finally executed in 1995 and since then there has been rarely any word of them so to speak!

Another link came from some one who mentioned that this group was formed by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the founder and leader of the Hezb-e Islami political party and paramilitary group. He was a rebel military commander during the 1980s Soviet war in Afghanistan and fought in the civil war that followed the Soviet withdrawal. He held the office of Prime Minister of Afghanistan from 1993 to 1994 and again in 1996. Again, on his Wikipedia profile, there is no mention of him starting this so called group!

Someone is spinning a big web of deception and countless misleads to mark up a nice big juicy scapegoat. I am sure the answer is much closer to home than we imagine.

This attack was symbolic and very personal. It carried one single message no matter how you look at it:  “You are not safe!”

While President Zardari is currently en route to United States to attend the UN Assembly as well as have a talk with President George W Bush, Pakistan’s Chief Of Army Staff has gone East on a 5 day official trip to China.

This happens to be quite an interesting move in a sense that while our President is heading to United States to possibly ensure that Pakistan’s solidarity shall remain as staunch as ever, our COAS is going over to our long time friend, China where he will be meeting the Chinese President Hu Jintao as well as visiting three military regions namely Shenyang military region, Beijing military region and Chengdu military region. The two countries are building some of their most sophisticated war machinery through mutual cooperation in the Chengdu Region including the multi-role medium-tech J-17 fighter planes. The sources revealed that General Kiyani would also visit some exercise areas where he would be shown some of the most modern defense equipment and war machinery that China has recently developed through indigenous research. General Kiyani will extend invitation to General Chen Bingde to visit Pakistan.

Whether the purpose of these polar opposite visits is to give a message to the United States and the rest of the world regarding a massive shift in Pakistan’s anti-terrorism policies or something else, there are huge expectations from both these tours.

President Zardari will probably be facing one of the toughest situations in his political career so far as he will be indulging the President of the United States in talks over various issues of grave importance ranging from Washington allowing US forces to operate inside Pakistan to where the relations between the two countries stand. He has already been snubbed and criticized for canceling his visit to China in favor of UK and the US and he will have tough waters to tread in the West and back home.

The nation, still bleeding, awaits its leaders’ next stance – and it is about time we take one!

Government officials, including those from intelligence agencies, told reporters in Miramshah, the headquarters of the NWA, that the incident took place around 10 pm at the border village of Lowara Mandi.

Requesting anonymity, they said the two US gunship helicopters entered the Pakistani airspace and flew over Lowara Mandi. They said the Pakistani soldiers used the 12.7mm light machineguns to fire at the intruding choppers. They claimed the helicopters were forced to fly back across the border to Afghanistan.

The senior Al-Qaida leader Mustafa Abu Yazzid says on the tape:

Yazzid also claimed responsibility for an attack earlier this year on the Danish embassy in Islamabad, which was said to be retaliation for the publication of cartoons in Denmark that Yazzid said mocked the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).

The truck was full of tnt, plastic explosives and aluminum, which was first time used in this attack and hence became the cause of raging fires that engulfed the entire hotel.

Witnessed by many, including a PPP MNA and his friends, a US embassy truckload of steel boxes was unloaded and shifted inside the Marriott Hotel on the same night when Admiral Mike Mullen met Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and others in Islamabad.

Both the main gates (the entrance and the exit) of the hotel were closed while no one except the US Marines were either allowed to go near the truck or get the steel boxes unloaded or shift them inside the hotel. These steel boxes were not passed through the scanners installed at the entrance of the hotel lobby and were reportedly shifted to the fourth and fifth floors of the Marriott.

Besides several others, PPP MNA Mumtaz Alam Gilani and his two friends, Sajjad Chaudhry, a PPP leader, and one Bashir Nadeem, witnessed this mysterious activity to which no one other than the PPP MNA objected and protested.

A source present there told The News that after entertaining them with refreshments at the Nadia restaurant at midnight when Mumtaz Alam, along with his friends, was to leave the hotel, he found a white US embassy truck standing right in front of the hotel’s main entrance.

Both the In-gate and the Out-gate of the hotel were closed while almost a dozen well-built US Marines in their usual fatigues were unloading the steel boxes from the truck. No one, including the hotel security men, was either allowed to go near the truck or touch the steel boxes, which were being shifted inside the hotel but without passing through the scanners.

Upon inquiry, one of the three PPP friends who was waiting for the main gates of the hotel to open to get his car in, was informed that the suspicious boxes were shifted to the fourth and fifth floors of the hotel. Mumtaz Alam was furious both at the US Marines and the hotel security not only for the delay caused to them but also for the security lapse he was witnessing.

On his protest, there was absolutely no response from the Marines and the security men he approached were found helpless. Mumtaz Alam told the hotel security official that they were going to endanger the hotel and its security. He was also heard telling his friends that he would never visit the hotel again. He also threatened to raise the issue in parliament.

One does not know whether the PPP MNA revisited the hotel after that mysterious midnight but his brother Imtiaz Alam, who is a senior journalist, was in the same hotel when the truck exploded at the main gate of the hotel. Imtiaz Alam had a lucky escape and found his way out of the hotel with great difficulty in pitch darkness.

One of the lifts he was using fell to the ground floor just after he forced the door open on the 4th floor and got out of it.

Statement on the Explosion at the Islamabad Marriott Hotel by Bill Marriott

At approximately 7:00 p.m. local time, an apparent car bomb exploded outside of the Islamabad Marriott in Pakistan. The bomb caused extensive damage to the front of the hotel and started a fire. Marriott International and the hotel are working with local authorities and rescue personnel to assist victims. News reports indicate numerous people were killed and injured in the blast. “We live in a dangerous world and this is a terrible tragedy. We grieve for those people who died, or were injured, and their families,” said Bill Marriott.

War has come to Pakistan’s door step a long time ago. It is most unfortunate that even till yesterday, many of us denied this fact. Not any more. Not when War has pushed in to our house and is now in our living rooms, in our bedrooms, in our backyards, every where around us.

Pakistan is under attack!

1000 KG of explosives have rocked the Marriott Hotel in the capital tonight. As of this moment, some 70 people have been reported dead and close to 300 injured. This count does not include any fatalities that might still be burning bodies on the upper floors of the hotel where fires are still raging and the authorities are trying their best to douse the flames.

There are fears among officials that the building might collapse under the brunt of such a massive explosion that not only destroyed the hotel but many other buildings in its vicinity. The crater caused by the explosion is said to be 15 feet deep and 20 feet wide! That should tell you the intensity of the blast as it was.

The attack occurred hours after President Asif Ali Zardari made his first speech to parliament, pledging to fight terrorism. Pakistan is battling an Islamic insurgency that left 2,000 people dead last year and has strained the nation’s relationship with the U.S. as it and allies fight to subdue Taliban and AL-Qaeda forces in neighboring Afghanistan.

The blast occurred when an explosives-laden truck smashed into the gate of the hotel at around 8 p.m. The detonation at the most prominent U.S. business in the Pakistani capital was heard 30 kilometers (18 miles) away in neighboring Rawalpindi as well.

Some eye-witnesses who were lucky to be alive said that the suicide bomber sitting in the truck made an announcement that everyone had 3 minutes to run away and save their lives if they could. After this announcement, he also blew a siren. 3 minutes later, hell broke loose. Such a chilling account. Such is the power of these terrorists that they can drive around in trucks loaded with deadly explosives in our capital and bomb at will. In the CAPITAL of our country! Such is their boldness and their resolve that they boast openly what they are about to do taking not for a second in consideration the innocent lives they are about to take down with them.

God help us and wake this country. If we don’t do any thing decisive even after this mess, then I am afraid we deserve to be wiped off the map of this world, either by more suicide bombings or the forces (both internal and external) who want us finished!

We have been saying for a long time now that the so-called ‘Pakistani Taliban’ is a group of criminals and not Mujahideen and their agenda is suspicious. This has got to be the first ever instance of a Pakistani Foreign Minister going around and kicking his own country in the butt and accusing her of violating other nations’ sovereignty!

While he silently condemned the recent US Air strike, he also added:

permit me to say as well that we too have the responsibility to ensure that there are no actions from here that violate the sovereignty of another country

What are you on these days Mr. Qureshi? Did you even realize what you were saying and in what context. Our own foreign minister is blatantly pointing out that Pakistan is involved with promoting terrorism across its borders: the very same blabber that India, Afghanistan, and the United States keep uttering!
