Print Media, You are next!

Following up on the government’s recent onslaught on private TV and broadcasting stations, Daily Times is quoting in today’s headlines that the state is now planning to introduce another law to curb down the printing and publication of ‘objectionable’ cartoons and editorial comments. This, if it happens, will encompass all the national as well as regional newspapers across the country.

PEMRA Ordinance Challenged

In related news, PEMRA’s recent right (see here) to suspend privare TV licenses, confiscate property and equipment etc has been challenged in the Supreme Court as well as the Sindh High Court on the grounds that the ammendment made to the PEMRA ordinance serves as a gag order to the fundamental right of freedom and speech of the Pakistani people.

“Go Media!” chants Lal Masjid

Doing in Rome as the Roman’s do, the fine folks at our very own Lal Masjid have ‘voiced’ their support for the Pakistani media and declared its struggle against the recent restrictions put forth by the government as yet another ‘jihad’. 

According to Lal Masjid’s senior cleric, Maulan Abdul Rashid Ghazi: “Criticising wrong polices of the government and speaking truth before a cruel ruler is also a jihad. The government has no courage to bear a mere criticism of the media.
